When you think of Kramer guitars, you typically think of Eddie Van Halen or another '80s titans shredding on a thin neck with a pointy headstock. But when Kramer first kicked off, its body styles and aluminum-based necks owed more to Travis Bean than Wayne Charvel. We recently talked to Dave Nardelli, senior editor over at Vintage Kramer : one of the best guitar fan sites there is.
A lot can be and has already been said about this infamous decade, but rarely do we talk about its finest guitars. With the wholehearted endorsement of Eddie Van Halen — the foremost guitar hero of the 80s — Kramer rose to the top of the heap and enjoyed a reputation as the best guitar company around. There was quite a bit of variation with the headstocks, neck shapes C to Boat to Shreddernut widths, tonewoods, pickups Schaller to Seymour Duncanelectronics stereo string panning, coil-splitting, hidden pickupstremolos, and hardware.

And of the many wild guitars of that epoch, arguably no other manufacturer exemplified the decade more than Kramer. Kramer Guitars is an American manufacturer of electric guitars and basses. Kramer produced aluminum -necked electric guitars and basses in the s and wooden-necked guitars catering to hard rock and heavy metal musicians in the s; Kramer is currently a division of Gibson Guitar Corporation. There is some dispute over the company's early history, but it begins with Travis Beana California luthier who was building guitars with aluminum necks. Bean and Gary Kramer started the Travis Bean guitar company inin Sun Valley, and while their guitars did well, Bean lost interest and left most of the business aspects to Kramer; the two parted ways.
